The Jr. Wildcats program is a non-profit organization created to instill the youth of Wheeling with a
positive community experience, to develop strong relationships, and to be taught with positive coaching
techniques.

Our goal is to bring the spirit of football back to the town of Wheeling.  The Jr. Wildcats is a feeder
program for future Wheeling High School students, and will serve as an excellent recruiting tool and
training mechanism for  incoming Wildcats.  The program will teach athletes the game of football,
sportsmanship, courage, and teamwork.  Most importantly, the youth will experience great life lessons,
and become stronger, loyal, confident young men.

Objectives

The Jr. Wildcat football program’s objective is to create a positive foundation of Leadership,
Commitment, and Dedication for the future Student Athletes of Wheeling High School by:

•        Teaching proper fundamentals and techniques of the game
•        Providing the best equipment to ensure the safety of all players
•        Promoting the importance of good sportsmanship and putting the team first
•        Instilling the values of leadership, discipline, commitment, sacrifice and dedication
•        Maintaining physical fitness and exercise to promote a healthy lifestyle
•        Helping to raise interest and spread awareness of football throughout Wheeling
•        Creating a program to feed experienced football players to Wheeling High School
•        Reaching out to local Jr. Highs and Grammar Schools to raise awareness of the Jr. Wildcats
•        Growing Wheeling’s youth into positive and productive members of society

Coaching Methods/Organization

The Jr. Wildcat program is committed to giving every child who plans to attend Wheeling High School
the opportunity to play football regardless of previous experience, size or athletic ability.  Anyone in
grades  4th - 8th are welcome and encouraged to join, and no player will be turned down.  The program
is designed to provide Leadership, Knowledge and Guidance that the players will be able to use in all
aspects of their lives.

The coaching staff will be mainly comprised of local community members that will include Parents,
Wheeling High School Alumni and former football players who come from a variety of different
backgrounds and all have experience in coaching youth football.  The coaching staff is dedicated
towards teaching Wheeling’s Student Athletes the importance of Teamwork, Sportsmanship, Discipline,
Commitment, Respect and Sacrifice both on and off the football field.

Team sizes will be limited to ensure the coaching staff will be able to work with each player on a
personal, individual basis with the main goal of having a 1 to 6 coach to player ratio.  Players will also be
able to start forming strong bonds and friendships with fellow teammates at an early age that will carry
over into High School, thus creating the camaraderie needed for success.

Summary

The program will shape the youth to become accomplished student athletes, and will also have the
passion to continue to play through High School.  The Jr. Wildcats will promote football throughout the
community and the High School Football program can only benefit from the success the Jr. Wildcats
strive to achieve.  The Jr. Wildcats plan to create new traditions that will set the path for generations to
come.
